Frequently Asked Questions

Where do you get your used bikes?
Our used bikes come from a number of places. Some are donated at the shop. We have an ever growing network of communities that partner with us in rescuing "used up" bicycles. Despite all of this, less than 1 in 5 of our donated bikes meet our standards and end up on the sales floor of our shop. The rest are sent to Africa, donated locally, or scrapped (as a last resort).

What is your return policy?
We will gladly accept returns within 30 days of original purchase date (excludes bicycle purchases). Items must be unopened and in new condition and include all manuals and accessories provided with the product at time of sale. Original purchase receipt required.
- We cannot accept returns on items that have been used.
- We cannot accept returns on clothing, closeouts/clearance items, helmets, auto racks, opened tools, and special orders.
- Bicycles priced more than $250 can be exchanged for store credit within 14 days of purchase. Bicycles purchases cannot be returned for a refund.
- Bicycles priced less than $250 can be traded in within 6 months of purchase date for the full purchase price towards a bicycle priced greater than $250.
- Used parts and accessories cannot be returned, but may be exchanged for other used parts. We do not offer store credit for used parts.
- Refunds for credit card purchases will be credited to the card used for the original purchase. Card must be present.

Do you have a lay-a-way program?
Yes! A minimum of 50% payment in advance is required to hold merchandise on lay-a-way. The 50% deposit on a lay-a-way item is not refundable even if purchase is cancelled. Bicycle layaway payments may be applied to another bike within 30 days. The maximum lay-a-way period is 30 days.

Do you need a bike now, but can't afford the one you want? A bicycle purchased at Recovery Bike Shop for less than $250 holds its entire purchase price value for six months. During this time, the bike may be returned to the shop as credit toward a bicycle priced above $250.

How did you become involved with the Burning Man festival?
Burning Man will change your life. It is a week-long social experiment where gifting is the only allowed economy and bicycles are the main form of transportation. So, how could we NOT be involved with this bicycle mecca? Bicycle repair is our gift and we run a full service bicycle shop (with limited spare parts) every day all week.

Are all of the employees at Recovery Bike Shop in recovery?
In short, no. Being in Recovery from drugs and alcohol is not a pre-requisite to working at the shop. However, all of the people that work there have a tremendous amount of respect for how the shop was started and enjoy being a part of a unique shop that focuses on a genuine caring for the people that come into the shop rather than just "selling bikes".
